Introduction

Destiny 2, the popular online multiplayer first-person shooter, has captured the hearts and minds of gamers around the world. With the release of the Lightfall DLC, fans have been eagerly exploring new content and forming theories about the game’s ever-expanding lore. In this article, we delve into a fan-made theory that aims to explain the events of the first cutscene in the Lightfall DLC, specifically why the Traveler attacked the Witness’s mothership Pyramid with a large beam of paracausal energy.

As the Traveler is surrounded by Pyramid ships, the ships pulse once more, stopping the paracausal beam from launching, crippling the H.E.L.M., and damaging additional Vanguard ships in orbit. After complete its approach, the Witness makes an attempt to breach the Traveler’s surface but is instead given a vision of the Solar system, revealing The Veil’s position.

The Scenario in the Lightfall DLC’s First Cinematic

The first cutscene of the Lightfall DLC sees the Vanguard attempting to engage the Shadow Legion and the Pyramid fleet in defense of the Traveler. However, the Witness has other plans, commanding a Pyramid to eject a pulse of energy that obliterates various Vanguard ships. Having confronted the Traveler, the Witness is then attacked by a large beam of paracausal energy generated by the Traveler, transforming its mothership Pyramid with flora. Despite this, the Witness remains untouched and unaffected, even managing to dissect a Ghost and its Guardian within a ship attempting to stop its approach to the Traveler.

The Fan-Made Theory: Traveler’s Energy Beam

The fan-made theory suggests a possible reason behind the Traveler’s attack on the Witness’s mothership Pyramid. The theory revolves around the end of the Exotic Winterbite mission, where an artificial intelligence identifying itself as Occlusion, actually the submind Soteria, sends a message to the Guardian: “…URGENT: SATURN VI CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION. WITNESS ENEMY IN TITAN. IF STILL ALIVE, PRESERVATION IS FUNDAMENTAL. DON’T WASTE TIME. …”

The Importance of Titan and Macrocosm

Titan, one of Saturn’s moons, plays a crucial role in this theory. Hidden in another dimension by the Witness, Titan is where the Root of Nightmares and Nezarec come into play. The Guardians investigate the problem reported by neonumi, which is important, but the most crucial part of the mission is exploring the Pyramid that the Witness inhabits, specifically the place called Macrocosm.

Savathûn’s game, Two Lies, Two Truths, hints at this, with the quote, “The power to move worlds will soon be yours.” In the Pyramid ship, Macrocosm is where the power to move worlds truly lies, and it’s where Guardians can actually move worlds.

Speculations on Leviathan and Connections to Other Characters

This fan-made theory also introduces the possibility that the Witness Enemy is, in fact, Leviathan. Leviathan imprisoned Sathona/Savathun, Xi Ro/Xivu Arath, and Auryx/Oryx millions of years ago. However, Rhulk fought and injured Leviathan, allowing it to escape and vanish from the sight of agents of Darkness.

Rhulk: It was your infinite wisdom, my Witness, that led me into the planet’s great sea… and face to face with that which was believe to be unbeatable. You instilled in me a true understanding on wanton domination. Not for pleasure, but as a means to achieve our absolute finality. When I reached the creature known to some as the Leviathan, it laid its thoughts bare. “Turn from the deep, fearmonger,” it relayed. “It know what you seek. Press on, and you will drown in it.” “I do not drown,” I spoke with a defiant tongue. “In a mere infinitesimal measure of time, I held a rib of this beast in one hand and pushed aside its maimed vessel with the other. “I rise.”

Leviathan’s connection to other characters in the game adds an intriguing layer to the theory. The history of Leviathan and its relationship with the Darkness and other key figures in the Destiny universe adds depth to the narrative and raises new questions about the true nature of the Witness Enemy and the motives behind the Traveler’s actions.

Fan-made Theory’s “Conclusion” (?)

This fan-made theory on Destiny 2’s Lightfall DLC offers an intriguing perspective on the events of the first cutscene, providing a possible explanation for the Traveler’s attack on the Witness’s mothership Pyramid. By delving into the roles of Soteria, Titan, Macrocosm, and Leviathan, the theory weaves together various aspects of the game’s lore, raising new questions and speculations about the unfolding narrative.

As the Destiny 2 community continues to explore the Lightfall DLC, theories like this one only serve to enhance the gaming experience, encouraging players to think critically about the game’s story and immerse themselves in the rich world that Bungie has created.
